Welcome to North Aster
“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
Our lives are short, relative to the existence of the world around us. For most of us, the successes we achieve can’t be easily measured by others. The way of this world is to push you toward reaching the top of the ladder, even if you find happiness on the rungs in the middle. According to society, the end goal is about what you have to show at the end of your time, and not the lives you impacted along the way.
In 2022, a small group of students from a country with the eighth lowest population density in the world came to a conclusion after months of reflection. The conclusion was that the world is too big for our lives to feel small. If so many people live their lives hoping to be part of the one percent, that means 99 percent of the world will never be happy with their lives. That number is not acceptable. The narrative must be changed, people need to know that the satisfaction and happiness they feel can come from within themselves. As a society, we can heal and grow together. We don’t have to all be heroes and make a difference alone.
Two years later, that same group of students, now professionals with experience in a field where helping others is your duty, discovered that there is much more damage than anyone can know. So many people are struggling, being left behind while others are still trying to catch up. We realized that before people could be happy, they needed to heal. Oddly enough, it was found that healing is much more difficult than it should be. Everyone has something that pushes them forward, and baggage that keeps them stuck in place.
How do we help everyone when they all need something different? You may have noticed that most of your healing paths have already been paved for you. Whether it’s an organization filled with people who claim to know how you feel despite never having experienced the haunting memories you carry, or someone who is focused on turning a profit instead of changing a life, the mental health field has become a cookie-cutter process where others decide what is best for you. We were ready to go against the grain and create something different.
North Aster was created around the belief that your path towards healing should be one that bears two sets of footprints; the person who is finding their way, and the supporter who is walking with them, helping to navigate their journey. Wherever you are on your path, allow us to carry some of the load with you. We understand that healing is not linear, because we live that reality everyday. From resources, to support, to conversations, or safety, we are happy to walk with you. That is what we’ve decided to do with our time; help you enjoy yours.
